The Greek Orthodox Youth of America (GOYA) at St. George is off to an exciting start with several new faces and events for the year. GOYA meets on the second Tuesday of each month. On the second Friday of each month, GOYA members gather for a family night filled with fun activities and learning. The St. George PTA serves a delicious meal while GOYA mentors meet with the youth of our Church. The Church School Round Table discussion meets youth who are sophomores, juniors and seniors in high school who gather to share their experiences. In these settings, mentors have the opportunity to engage in in-depth discussions about the frustrations facing youth and provide guidance about how their Faith will guide them through challenging times in year to come. Dean Papaliodis is the GOYA advisor.
GOYA also organizes several annual youth social activities including hayrides, ice-skating at Boston Common’s Frog Pond, and attending sporting events. In 2007, the Church also added a youth room that includes leather coaches, a flat panel TV, pool table, air hockey table and ping pong tables so that our youth have a place to relax and enjoy each other’s company.
We welcome and encourage youth in Grades 7-12 (ages 13-18) to be a part of this fun and exciting ministry. Any interested in joining the St. George GOYA program or would like to be added to the mailing list of activities should contact: stgeorgegoya@yahoo.com or the Church Office at (781) 593-6162.
